Accessing Expanded States of Consciousness Through Intuitive Movement with Francoise Bourzat
What does it mean to have Expanded States of Consciousness? What does it mean to be embodied? Through this series the Center for Consciousness Medicine seeks to share the various tools for hitting ESC beyond psychedelics.
For our first session we will be with Francoise Bourzat, author of Consciousness Medicine, to guide us through intuitive movement. Intuitive movement is the practice of connecting with your body and its internal cues and using that to determine what type of movement, how long, and the intensity you’d like to engage in. It also incorporates mindfulness, by being present in whatever movement you choose to do.
By the end of this workshop you will have a series of tools to help you tap into expanded states through the innate wisdom of your body, to be harnessed throughout your life.

Psychedelics for Grief
Let’s talk about how psychedelics can offer a way into and through grief by being a portal of connection with ourselves, one another, and the planet.
From grieving loved ones to the climate crisis, the process of grief can come in waves, from confusion to sorrow. Entheogens and psychedelics have shown unique promise in helping people move through these stages. In clinical trials at NYU, Johns Hopkins, and others, research has shown that there’s an intimate connection between this healing and the mystical qualities of a psychedelic experience.

Psychedelics as a Commodity at the Los Angeles Medicinal Psychedelics Symposium
Psychedelics as a commodity? The current conversation on psychedelics is reaching broadly into our society. We are all glad to see this topic be less stigmatized than before and so much more openly discussed. We are glad to see MDMA and Psilocybin be considered potent treatments for crippling mental conditions. But, we are facing a challenge in this current orientation on psychedelics. There is also a trend which tends to medicalize and commodify substances that were originally sacred to some indigenous groups and part of ancient rituals. The social stage is opening up now to people and companies which are starting to take advantage of the opportunity to profit from this field. The danger is that the diligent and thorough approach which values the weaving of sacred rituals and efficiency of treatment together with psychological depth of understanding be seen as too rigid and too tedious to be applied. How do we face this challenge as a community by creating standards of training, listening to guidance from elders in this field, turning to indigenous wisdom holders as to create a right balance between the necessary scaling of quality guides and the stable and solid foundation on which they will stand.

Bridging Indigenous Wisdom and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy
In the climate of advancing research with the medical use of psychedelics, how are ancient traditions anchored in the use of sacred plants and fungi considered? How is it possible to cultivate reciprocity, honoring these traditions, cultures, and people while integrating their wisdom into our Western industrialized world? How are these rituals handled in their own traditions, and how do we replicate them without cultural misappropriation? Once connected with lineages and traditional uses of these sacred substances, our modern world can feel the support and permission to translate their ceremonies.?
